General information

Background: Set in pleasant parkland close to centre of Aylesbury; has grown threefold since its foundation in 1959, when the previously co-educational Aylesbury Grammar School became boys-only, attracting pupils from as far afield as Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire as well as Aylesbury and surrounding villages. Major building programmes have added new science laboratories, a drama studio, music suite, international centre and library, a technology building, sports hall, and several information technology suites. Outside are pleasant courtyards and quadrangles with trees and seating, as well as playing fields, tennis and netball courts. The school maintains a balance in extra-curricular activities including individual activities, team games, hockey, tennis, karate, and trekking. Describes itself as 'friendly and welcoming, with a relaxed atmosphere underpinned by the provision of an excellent education by professional and committed staff'. Strong links with Chagaik School in Kenya; developing links with schools in India and elsewhere; pupils have visited a dozen countries on three continents in past coupel of years, on exchanges, visits and expeditions. Teaching award regional finalist (Healthy Schools) in 2006. Specialist language college status from September 2001. After-school care, until 4.30pm.
