General information

Background: The school is housed in a 'pleasant' modern single storey building with a good multi-purpose hall, six classrooms, resource centre, computer suite, music room and library. There is a swimming pool and 'delightful' grounds which are used 'extensively' for environmental education. It is located on the top of a hill with the 'best view in Buckinghamshire', and surrounded by open fields. All pupils study the core and foundation subjects of the national curriculum plus religious education, with the emphasis on language, mathematics and science. A number of special initiatives are currently underway including primary French, musical instrument tuition and the development of a special needs programme. The school is linked with a school in Madrid and is working towards an Investors in People award. There is also a termly artist-in-residence programme. The school offers a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities which includes swimming, games, lace-making, calligraphy, wildlife and chess clubs. In 1998 the school was Aylesbury Vale Sports School of the Year, and the cricket team have been county champions twice. Older pupils are taken on a residential school journey which alternates between an outdoor activity centre in Shropshire and a field trip to Normandy, France. The school has 'close links' with the Church, parents and the local community. There is a 'strong' parent-teacher association (PTA) which gives 'valued support' to the school, raising substantial additional funds every year. The school is proud to be 'almost unique' in Buckinghamshire in having a successful self-supporting school meals service.
