General information

Background: Burford School is 27 years old, with 'attractive' grounds and buildings set in a large village on the outskirts of Marlow. It caters for children in both the infant and junior phases of education and the catchment area of the school covers the whole of Marlow Bottom. The main school building comprises classrooms, work areas, a main hall, an ICT room, a library and administrative offices. There are also four temporary classrooms, two of which are used as class bases. The school has a 'strong tradition' of music and sporting activities. Nearly 100 pupils learn instruments, there is a choir and a wind band. A 'wide variety' of sports is available including soccer, netball, rugby, cricket, athletics, table tennis and orienteering. The school team has been the British Schools Orienteering Champions for the last five years. There are 'strong links' with the community, the school buildings are used in the evenings for 'village' activities and provide a meeting place for local community groups. Throughout the year various activities take place which involve the community including gifts to the elderly at harvest time, visits from the local playgroups and school support for the village 'Rose Carnival'. During the year the children support local, national and international charities.
