Background: Lansdowne Primary is situated in grounds which feature a 'spacious' playing field and hard play space, providing pupils with facilities for football, cricket and athletics in addition to recreation. A greenhouse, pond and wild life area are used for environmental projects and to promote children's environmental and scientific study. Lansdowne aims to afford pupils 'a wide range of stimulating and exciting learning opportunities' with 'high expectations in academic and extra-curricular areas to ensure that each child reaches his or her full potential'. The programme of extra-curricular activities reflects this and caters for netball, football, cricket, athletics, gardening and chess. Pupils may learn the recorder, clarinet, saxophone, flute, violin, trumpet, drums or piano and perform in the school's orchestra, choir and music festival. In addition, there is a school production, energize club, homework club and environmental projects. Sporting achievements include winning the Mini World Cup at Adam's Park in 1999, winning the league in 1999 and Year 5 winning the under-10 football cup. The athletics teams have also been 'successful' locally and nationally, and all pupils achieve swimming awards. Visiting speakers, day and residential trips are organised to enhance classroom learning.
