General information

Background: Built in 1973, the school occupies award-winning single-storey buildings in a beautiful wooded setting. Its catchment area includes the village of Chesham Bois and part of the commuter town of Amersham. In addition to the National Curriculum, French is taught by a specialist teacher from Year 3. Music is seen as an important part of school life, and children are encouraged to take up tuition in instruments such as violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and trumpet. All children are also taken to see a ballet, an opera and a symphony during their time at the school. The grounds are used for sport, science, orienteering and play. Sports include netball, football, hockey, cricket, athletics, tag rugby and basketball. 'Numerous' extra-curricular activities include choir, netball, wind band, football, chess, mathematics, dance, table tennis, drama and book discussion groups. The citizenship programme has a very high profile at the school, which maintains such community links as an annual education/business week. The Elangeni Citizenship Award contains a section on service to the community. Children support children's and local charities. Elangeni has achieved Investor in People status and is also a Beacon school. 'Children are encouraged to develop their individual potential and to enrich the school community as a whole.' .
