General information
Background: Founded in 1893, the school rapidly grew in size and stature. Today it is set in its own grounds at the top of Marlow Hill, drawing pupils from a wide area of south Buckinghamshire and adjacent areas of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Middlesex. Developments gave the school a new facade in September 1995 and the following January work was completed on a sixth-form block to provide specialist teaching rooms, private study rooms, private study accommodation, a common room and new library. New classroom block and sports hall opened in 2005, reflecting the increasing demand for places at the school. New sports hall and classroom block in 2006. Academic excellence; Young British Engineer of the Year (2004) and Duke of York's Award for Electronic Inventor of Year 2004. Also excels at sport, music, drama and extra-curricular activities. Sports teams regularly feature in regional and national finals in football, rugby, hockey, cricket, athletics and table tennis. International tours are undertaken, including 1st XV rugby tour to Singapore, Australia and Fiji in 2004; football and rugby tour to South America in 2006; challenge leadership expeditions undertaken. Specialist technology college status; excellent ICT facilities include an design suite and digital language facility. The school prides itself on maintaining traditional grammar school values within a modern teaching and learning environment. Specialist technology college status; also specialist sports college status from 2006. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with more than three applications per place. Sportsmark (2003, distinction in 2005); Investor in People status (2002).
