General information

Background: There has been a primary school in Downley, on the edge of High Wycombe, since the late 19th century and it has grown with the village. Downley is a new school formed by amalgamation of Heights County First School and Downley County Middle School in September 1999. Purpose-built site opened in 2002 in area noted as site of outstanding beauty. Strong community links include acting as guardians of the National Trust Hughenden Estate. It is a Centre of Excellence for ICT and boasts strengths in music and drama. Over-subscribed, with 1.5 applications per place. After-school care, until 6pm. Schools Curriculum Award; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award (2001, 2002). Ethos: 'We encourage all our children to achieve their very best in a supportive, caring atmosphere, respecting each child as an individual.' .
