General information

Background: Founded in 12th century and set on a 22-acre site located one mile from High Wycombe centre; buildings are blend of traditional and modern. Since the early 1990s £4 million has been spent on new accommodation, including a sports hall, library, language centre, science accommodation and state-of-the-art music centre; also new boarding house for 70 boys. The school offers 14 sports, including Eton fives and shooting, and every year for the past decade has had UK or England representatives in rugby, hockey, cricket, golf, basketball, fencing, tennis or rowing. Offers 24 subjects at A-level and has more than 30 school societies in addition to Combined Cadet Force and Voluntary Service Unit. Eight languages taught, including Mandarin, Japanese, Russian and Swedish. School's sponsors include Royal Bank of Scotland, NS Optimum, and Wyeth Parmaceuticals. Specialist language college status. Before-school care, from 7.30am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.6 applications per place. Ethos: 'Aims to be a well-ordered and caring community, providing educational excellence for all pupils, based on high-quality teaching, good facilities, and a breadth of curriculum, underpinned by a pastoral care organisation that meets the changing needs of developing pupils.' .
