General information
Background: This village school moved to its present site in 1971 and serves the local community, nearly all of which lives in privately-owned property and which supports the school well. The parents' association boosts the school's budget. The school places great emphasis on the library, performing arts, spiritual pursuits and physical development; describes its approach to education as child-centred, valuing every pupil as an individual. Poetry, plays and literature are 'of paramount importance'. Greenmount's choir is particularly successful; enters the Ramsbottom Music Festival each year, has sung in the Hallelujah Christmas at the Manchester Evening News Centre. The school has been commended for its work in textiles at the Great British Quilt Festival and is proud of its annual charity efforts, Harvest Festivals and Poppy Appeals. It aims to participate in as many sports as possible including rugby, gymnastics, football (for both girls and boys), swimming, tennis, rounders, lacrosse and cricket and among its sporting achievements the school was Ramsbottoms School of the Year (Sport '98) and runner-up in northwest cricket at Old Trafford, representing Bury. The school is over subscribed, receiving approximately two applications for each place.
