Background: Single-storey school in pleasant residential area on west side of Bury, near Ainsworth; opened in 1974; extensive grounds, including two adjacent sports fields and enivronmental area with pond. Large school hall used for assemblies, physical education, drama and musical productions; eight classrooms, two shared resource areas, two well-stocked libraries, computer suites and quiet study room; both infant and junior resource areas used for variety of technology, art and craft, and science activities; infant area also used for structured play and role-play. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. School extension in 2003, providing accommodation for before- and after-school club, and variety of teaching groups throughout day. School kitchen produces meals eaten in hall at lunchtime. School has keen interest in information technology; internet access and extensive range of software. Before-school care, from 7.45am; after-school care, until 6pm. Healthy Schools Award; Basic Skills Quality Mark; DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003). Ethos: 'The staff at Lowercroft, both teaching and non-teaching, form a hardworking team whose aim is to provide a stimulating and happy learning environment in which children are seen as individuals and are given the opportunity to develop their full potential in all aspects of school life.' .
