General information

Background: Barkisland Church of England School was founded in 1657 and moved to its present location in 1890. The accommodation was extended in 1974 to include three new classrooms, with an additional temporary classroom added in 1999. The school has also been refurbished and modernised and is in very good condition. There are five classrooms in total as well as two playgrounds, an extensive sports field, and a conservation area with pond that is maintained by the children via the gardening club. Good links have been established with the community, church and parents. The church warden and Vicar lead worship on a regular basis and children contribute to church services. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include cross-country, netball, football, rounders, art, choir, drama and recorder. Children support at least one charity each term and are proactive in their fundraising. The school aims to provide a stimulating and purposeful environment where children's work and professionally produced materials are displayed appropriately within the physical constraints of the school.
