General information

Background: Founded in 1815, the school began life in its present form with the amalgamation of the infant and junior schools in 1997. It is now over-subscribed. The cheerful site features grass, trees and benches and the buildings are made up of a Key Stage 1 block extended in 1999, and an original Georgian Key Stage 2 block extended in 1985. There are 15 classrooms, one hall, a kitchen and an administrative office accommodation. The school benefits from extensive grounds, which it shares with the local Catholic school. Around 30 per cent of pupils speak English as an additional language. A coordinator assists children with special educational needs. After-school activities include various sports, dance, computing and chess. Pupils take part in inter-school netball and football events. Junior school pupils have swimming lessons. The school has strong links with local churches and the Diocese of Wakefield, and children raise money for charity every year. The parent teacher association has an imaginative programme of social and fundraising events. The school has a Christian foundation and seeks to promote an ethos within the school in which each individual feels valued and respected and is encouraged to make a positive contribution to home, school and society.
