General information

Background: Lightcliffe CofE Primary was opened as a national school in January 1869. The original school is a grade II listed building. There have since been four major phases of extensions which have added classrooms, a hall, an administrative area, an activity area for reception children, a headteachers office, a new library and a computer room to the existing facilities. The 'extensive' grounds include a two acre field with a nature reserve, hard play areas with seats, walled shrub gardens, a pond and a natural science area. In front of the building is a large lawn. The school provides a range of extra-curricular activities and 'participates fully' in local sporting events. Music is seen as strength of the school and the orchestra meets once a week during term time. Lightcliffe is a Church aided school and the ethos of the school reflects this. Children are encouraged to learn and grow in all areas of life and see themselves as part of the school community and the local community. Each and every person is important in their school life.
