General information

Background: Founded in 1895, the school's original building has been augmented over the years and now provides seven classrooms, an ICT suite, small library and hall. It is set in large grounds including a hard surfaced playground, quiet area, environmental area and playing field. The school is situated in the village of Hove Edge, which lies on a main bus route two miles from Brighouse. A wide range of extra-curricular activities includes gardening, dance, recorder, choir, football, netball, ICT and indoor games. Children also enjoy a range of events such as pantomimes. The school has a 'strong Christian ethos and well-developed links with the church' and is included on the Religious Education Teacher Recruitment Initiative (RETRI) website of good practice. It holds special days with a particular curricular focus such as RE or art, to 'raise the subject's profile and provide unique opportunities for pupils'. It also maintains 'close links' with local schools and is currently taking part in a project with local primary and secondary schools to develop more effective transition procedures from Year 6 to Year 7. There is a 'very supportive' home-school association which organises fundraising and social activities. Pupils take part in a wide range of charity fundraising events and the school's 2001 Lent Appeal enabled them to sponsor a child in Indian through Action Aid. The school is slightly over-subscribed. .
