General information

Background: Formed in 1985 from amalgamation of Highlands School and Princess Mary School; school building has undergone extensive development, with addition of four classrooms, two ICT suites, and two science laboratories; five other science laboratories have been refurbished. The school has three choirs, concert band, junior band, orchestra, handbell groups and several instrumental ensembles; three concerts each year and biennial concert tour to Spain, Italy or France. Drama is a strength, with an annual school production and sixth-form theatre companies. Latin, German and Spanish are available at Key Stage 3 and GCSE; dance also available at GCSE. ICT is a separate core subject in Years 7 to 10, accredited at GCSE; ICT delivered in all subjects; dedicated ICT room for modern foreign languages and interactive whiteboards in all mathematics rooms. Extensive programme of visits and experiences, with day-visits in Year 7 and week-long residential visits to Normandy in Year 8; history and sports trips to other European countries. Specialist science college status. Breakfast service; homework club. Over-subscribed, with nearly three applications per place. Artsmark; Investor in People status.
