General information
Background: Located in a rural village, Barton Primary is overlooked by the village church, with which it has 'strong links'. Pupils are involved in the local community through music, fetes, concerts and local studies carried out as part of class work. Music lessons, recorder tuition, chess, netball, cricket, football, French and ballet are all offered at the school. Pupils attend regional athletics and musical events and have recently won prizes for poetry and design technology in national competitions. The 'active' Friends of Barton School organisation raise money for the school through social events and sponsorship and other activities are arranged by the children themselves. Pupils, parents and staff have also been responsible for raising 'generous' amounts for charities. Facilities for disabled pupils include entrance ramps and disabled toilets. The special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator oversees the provision of support and records are regularly updated. Good links with the local secondary school enable the continuity of planning and policy for pupils with SEN. 'Booster' classes for pupils in Year 6 take place before school and after school clubs and activities are also offered.
