General information

Background: Moved from its church premises in the High Street to its present site in 1936. Full refurbishment to school buildings carried out in 1996 after parts fell into disrepair. Two classrooms have since been added, replacing a mobile unit and bringing the school under one roof for the first time. Children have responded 'positively' to the improved surroundings. Situated on a semi-rural site surrounded by fields but close to Cambridge. Grounds are being developed to provide 'an exciting and stimulating environment for work and play.' Older people meet at the school once a week and join the children at various times in the year to celebrate special occasions such as Christmas. The Parish Council holds its open meetings on site. A wide variety of extra curricular activities, clubs and music lessons for the children, including drama, dance, art, craft, recorder, cricket, and football training run by Cambridge United. School belongs to Circle Schools, a group of small schools clustered around Bottisham. It is a long established group which helps provide more learning opportunities for the children; joint events include staff training, governor support, sporting fixtures, library, quizzes, science fairs and musical events. A homework policy enables each child 'to become an independent learner and to practise skills learned in the classroom, thereby increasing knowledge and understanding.' Over-subscribed, 42 applications for 17 places.
