General information

Headteacher: J Scott, appointed in September 2000.

Staff: 27 (men 2, women 25).

Background: Founded in 1920, the school moved to its current award-winning purpose-built accommodation in 1995. A nursery and reception class opened in the same year. The school is traditional in approach and all girls follow a broad curriculum based on the national curriculum and French is taught from the age of four. Girls are not selected on entry but standards are high and all are encouraged to be hard working, kind and polite. Sports offered include gym, dance, netball, football, cricket, touch rugby, short tennis, rounders and athletics, and the majority of pupils receive individual instrumental tuition. Regular fundraising activities raise considerable sums for charity. The school is over-subscribed, receiving four applications per place. After-school care until 4.30pm.

Approach to discipline: Discipline is positive, with rewards for good behaviour. Everyone is encouraged to contribute positively to the school community.

Uniform: Green skirt, blouse, cardigan/jumper, green and white striped summer dress. Strictly enforced..

Special needs: A learning support teacher was appointed in 2001 to set up a new department..

Inspection: May 2004: ?The girls at Sarum Hall are very well educated in a modern setting where traditional values are promoted. The curriculum is broad and the excellent ethos is appreciated by the girls and their parents. The girls? progress in their studies is rapid and academic standards are high because teaching is very good and the girls have such positive approach towards learning. Senior managers are very effective. Further improvement is needed in a few areas.?.
