Background: Opened in 1980 with 20 students of both sexes, the school provides 'a full range of academic subjects, free from the anachronisms of traditional independent schools'. Now based in the centre of Wales' capital city, New College attracts students from around the world as well as the UK. The preparatory division opened in 1990 for children from the age of seven and new facilities have since been added for children as young as four. 'Once we accept a pupil, we accept responsibility for all aspects of his education, academic, aesthetic and athletic.' 'Extensive' sports tuition and facilities are used at the National Tennis Centre and the Welsh Institute of Sport, 'a few minutes drive' from the school. .
Approach to discipline: 'School's own disciplinary policy is strictly adhered to. No corporal punishment.'.
