General information

Background: Following a battle over bilingual education in the Carmarthenshire area for many years, the school was founded in 1978 as part of the re-design strategy of secondary education in the region. Ysgol Gafun Bro Myrddin was established in the former boys' grammar school building to offer Welsh teaching in nearly all subjects. Bro Myrddin and its sister schools in Wales are part of the organisation for education in Welsh. The growing school moved to its present location on a 30 acre site in Croes-y-ceiliog on the outskirts of Camarthen in October 1996. The school provides Welsh medium education to students across the ability range.
