General information

Background: The school was established in 1958 in the market town of Llandeilo. The Welsh language and culture is prioritised and supported through various activities. For example, pupils regularly contribute to the S4C television programmes. The school has a strong music tradition with folk dancing a main feature of its extra-curricular activities. Many fundraising events are supported through choral, instrumental and dance displays. Pupils raise money for appeals including Blue Peter, Red Nose Day and Children in Need. They frequently win prizes in schools competitions, both in English and Welsh. All pupils are encouraged to take part in school productions and can choose whether or not to play a musical instrument. The school's many sporting achievements include winning of the local large schools swimming gala for the seventh year in succession. The seven-a-side football squad was runner-up in the All Wales championship in Ebbw Vale and two boys have been capped for the Southwest Wales Under 11 rugby squad. The school is over-subscribed, with three applications for each new place. The school was recently awarded a Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency for excellence in literacy and numeracy standards.
