General information

Background: Popular, family-oriented village school, with long tradition; after 140 years in original Victorian building, moved into new purpose-bult building with attached sports field in 1995; to cope with increased demand, two-class extension added in spring 2001. In addition to the National Curriculum, school offers flute, keyboard, piano, guitar and French; numerous out-of-school activities include art, computer, football, netball, needlework, crafts and choir; school represented at Chester Music Festival. Parent-teacher association, known as Friends of Davenham School, is 'extremely active'; many social and fundraising events. Commended in annual Chief Inspector's report. Over-subscribed, with nearly two applications per place. Invited to be one of 550 schools in the country to take part in DfES Sustaining Success Programme. DfES achievement awards (2000, 2001, 2002).
