General information

Background: Egerton County Primary School was established in 1972, having previously been founded as a Church of England Aided school in 1873. The school building has seven classroms situated around a central hall. The school grounds consist of two playgrounds and a large playing field. At the southern end of the field is an environmental study area which comprises of a pond, shelter belt hedge and a variety of trees and shrubs. The school is situated in the centre of the market town of Knutsford and many of the local inhabitants are former pupils of the old or new school. It is expanding its extra-curricular music provision to include brass and strings as well as woodwind and keyboard. It also takes part in all local sporting tournaments and organises the athletics meeting. Pupils are encouraged to raise money for charity, and various events are organised, including participation in a local art exhibition. Became aware in 2005 of an Egerton Primary School in Njoro, Kenya; also founded by Lord Egerton of Tatton Park; headteacher and teacher visited in June 2005 to establish link, which was celebrated by pupils designing and creating a gold-medal garden at the RHS flower show at Tatton. DfES achievement award (2003). Ethos: 'A caring and vibrant learning environment where all children are encouraged to play an active role in their learning and all aspects of school life.
