General information

Background: Helsby High School was formed in 1978 following the amalgamation of Helsby Grammar School for Boys and Helsby Grammar School for Girls and then developed as a fully comprehensive school. It is sited in a rural location on the edge of the village of Helsby. The school has excellent accommodation facilities with nine well-equipped science laboratories, two food technology rooms, four design and technology rooms and a specialist art suite. A sixth form centre with specialist ICT facilities and a fully equipped drama studio was constructed in 2005. A new ?E? learning centre is recently opened containing 60 work stations for private study and class use. The school has 35-acres of playing field and is well placed to offer a thriving and varied programme of sporting activity. It has excellent indoor and outdoor facility including a sports hall, gymnasium, tennis courts, an all-weather cricket wicket, an eight-lane athletics track and extensive playing fields. Hockey, netball, tennis, basketball, rugby, cricket, athletics, running, badminton and gymnastics are available to pupils. Each pupil achieves his or her potential through encouragement and positive support. There is a strong emphasis placed on good behaviour, respect for others and co-operative learning.
