General information

Background: Formed in 1973, the school is made up of lower and upper sections situated a quarter of a mile apart, and joined by a link path. Its extensive grounds stand in a rural setting on the edge of Knutsford. Many pupils are attracted from outside the catchment area and the school is over-subscribed, with two applications per place. The excellent accommodation includes extensive science provision, a European language laboratory, a purpose-built art, design and technology area, a joint use sports complex with swimming pool, a sports hall and a floodlit Astroturf pitch. New information technology suites have been created in both main buildings. All years have their own social areas and the purpose-built sixth form centre provides new study and social areas. The school has thrice received a Schools Curriculum Award for its broad and balanced curriculum and won Investors in People Award in 1997. Pupils outstanding sporting achievements meant the school could boast county champions in every age group in one of the major sports in 1994 and 1995. A strong music and dance tradition is maintained, along with a reputation for the quality of art produced. It is a happy as well as successful school where all are encouraged to develop themselves fully whilst always showing respect and consideration for everyone else in the school and wider community. The school aims to inspire all in its community to learn and achieve, stimulates the development of individual strengths and potential, encourages far reaching aspirations and promotes active citizenship.
