General information
Background: Our Mission at Macclesfield High School is to create Motivated, Happy and Successful learners. We aim to be a centre of excellence where young people from 11-19 come to learn, develop their natural abilities and discover new skills in preparation for a lifetime of success whatever they choose to be and to do. Macclesfield High School (MHS) is a self-governing state school (a foundation school) with 60 teachers and 40 support staff who together serve a population of about 900 11-16 students and a sixth form of another 200 students. As a result of our own expansion needs and the reorganization of secondary education in the town, we moved into totally new accommodation in 2007. Our brand new school is on the Park Lane campus, where we are part of the new, exciting and unique Macclesfield Learning Zone or MLZ. Our brand new school provides a wide range of learning opportunities for students in the 21st century, to meet their academic, artistic, sporting, personal and social needs. In 1998 we were designated by the Government as a specialist Technology College and we were successfully re-designated for five years again in 2001 and 2006. All areas of the curriculum have benefited from the additional funds, although mathematics, science, technology and information and communication technology (ICT) have been the main focus. In 2005, we were identified as one of the 70 highest performing specialist schools in the country and were invited to apply for a second specialism. From September 2006, we have been a specialist Arts College as well, with a focus on English and the visual arts. Children and their learning remain at the heart of what we do. We want them to learn in a technologically-rich environment, but above all, we want them to learn to be confident, assertive, outgoing, well-adjusted, compassionate and generous-spirited people as well. On this page, we have tried to summarise what MHS has stood for since its opening in 1958. We have brought with us into our new school all the best of the ?old? - all our strengths and our values, and those traditions which have made us the inclusive, welcoming, and well-respected comprehensive school we are ... ? MACCLESFIELD HIGH SCHOOL! ? One of the highest-performing specialist schools in the country in 2006 ? Totally new accommodation built in 2007 ?
