General information

Background: The school opened in 1966 to serve the parish of St Edward the Confessor, on the south side of Macclesfield. It is built in a traditional style and offers large playing fields. The school shares a boundary with parkland, looking towards the Pennine Hills. In addition to all National Curriculum subjects, there are 'many opportunities' for extra-curricular activities including football, netball, lacrosse, rounders, athletics, maths, choir and instrumental tuition. Music is a 'strength' of the school and the choir sings carols in the town centre to raise funds for a children's hospice. Other fundraising activities help Cafod, the Diocesan Good Shepherd Appeal and other charities. Each year, children from Year 6 go on a residential trip and take part in other challenging outdoor activities. The school takes great pride in the way its children help the community, such as entertaining the elderly in residential homes. 'There is a strong Christian ethos in the school and a caring, respectful atmosphere.' .
