General information

Background: St Matthew's School was founded in 1853 by the national society (Church of England) for promoting religious education. The original buildings faced Great Peter Street. To achieve the aims of the school, it offers a broad and balanced curriculum including academic, physical and creative subjects, personal, social and religious education. It provides equal access and opportunities for all pupils, encouraging pupils to become independent learners. The school promotes pride in their first language and provides support that develops fluency in verbal and written English. The children have the opportunity to use digital cameras to enhance their skills. All classrooms contain at least one computer. The learning process involves developing ideas for initial design, construction, evaluation and modification. In art and design pupils use observation and imagination in order to develop and communicate ideas through colour, form, texture and pattern. At St Matthew's it takes great delight in its music and all of the children benefit. The staff and children enjoy a range of musical opportunities. The school aims to create a happy and stimulating working environment, which encourages children to develop and fulfil their potential.
