General information

Background: This over-subscribed school originates from a nursery in Beaumont Street, central London, which was opened in the 19th century for the benefit of poor milkwomen who had little time to look after their children. In 1870 a move to Bulstrode Street coincided with the formation of an orphanage for girls, in addition to the nursery. In January 1938 the building on the current site was opened for boys and girls, in addition to 50 orphans in residence. During the second world war the school moved to Bristol and reopened in Marylebone - without the orphanage - after the war. The school is over-subscribed.
