Background: Strathdevon Primary School was opened in 1965. It is a co-educational and non-denominational school. The school is pleasantly situated between East Burnside and the Market Park with the Civic Centre adjacent to the East and the Health Centre to the West. The location of the school is further enhanced by views of the Ochil Hills to the North and open playing fields to the South. The school building contains eight classrooms, a large nursery classroom, a general purpose room, a resource and meeting room, a computer suite equipped with 30 networked PCs, a youth and community room and a large assembly/dining hall. The school has been refurbished, providing with a very modern, comfortable and attractive learning and teaching environment. The environment of the school is also enhanced by three internal 'garden' quadrangles, an activity, a cultivated and wildlife garden. The internal gardens are currently being refurbished. These three integral gardens provide a valuable context for learning. The school has plans to enhance its playground. An Action Committee has been formed, a design created and applications for funding secured. The first phase of the playground design is tnow complete, the building of an all weather sports pitch. The school is also the focus for a wide range of out of schools hours activities, e g breakfast Boogie club, athletics, badminton and football. The school aims to provide a high quality of learning and teaching where each child can be helped to achieve their full potential.
