Background: Bablake Junior School was opened in 1991 in temporary accommodation with 60 pupils. It is now housed in a purpose-built school, with numbers nearing 200. Based in Coventry city centre, the school has good access to bus and train services. The school is well equipped for information communications technology, with 52 computers. There are 24 extra-curricular activities for pupils to choose from each week, from canoeing to Maypole dancing. The school aims to provide a happy, pleasant disciplined environment and shares its aims with Bablake Senior School, thus ensuring a spirit of cooperation, which gives a strong bond to the whole. French and swimming are offered to all pupils in addition to the core national curriculum subjects and the school also dedicates a lot of time to maintaining a conservation area in its grounds. The school staff works closely with the Dyslexia Institute and are highly aware of the condition and how to deal with it. The school prides itself on providing excellence within a stimulating and happy school. At the end of their stay it aims to ensure that each child is prepared for a happy, successful and confident step onto the next stage of their education. Pupils sit entrance examinations in maths, English and verbal reasoning. The school aims to provide a caring, stimulating and happy environment. .
Approach to discipline: The school believes in a positive approach to discipline. Each pupil is given a good behaviour guide and the school tries to educate pupils not to misbehave rather than wait for them to do so and then tell them off. Discipline is based upon mutual respect between pupils, parents and staff.
Uniform: Black blazer, white shirt/blouse, house tie, grey trousers/skirt, black shoes. The uniform policy is rigorously enforced.
Special needs: The school has a support teacher with a diploma to deal children who are dyslexic. Also a teacher from Dyslexia Institute comes in two days a week to teach children who are dyslexic..
