General information

Background: The school is 'pleasantly situated' in an open area of Coundon, roughly three miles north-west of central Coventry. It was built in 1973 and consists of hexagonal shaped teaching areas, all open plan, bounded on one side by modern bungalows and on the other by the 'extensive' school playing fields. Partitions have recently been installed in the building so that the classes are now self-contained. The school now comprises eight classrooms, a library, special needs room, information and communications technology suite, food technology suite, resources room, a hall with a stage, and administration areas. The grounds include a 'large' playing field, two football pitches, two playgrounds and two netball courts. The school has 'high standards' in all subjects of the curriculum. As well as the information and communications technology suite, there are 22 computers in the classrooms linked to the internet. Extra-curricular activities include football for girls and boys, netball, cross-country, basketball, cricket, tag rugby, chess, recorder. There is also a 'very good' school choir which sings regularly at church. Sport is 'placed high on the agenda'. Educational trips also take place to an outdoor activity centre in North Wales, the theatre, field trips and visits to historical sites. The school also has partnerships with local businesses and great involvement in the parish community. Links with the infant school are well maintained. There is also a lot of fund raising for charities, particularly during Lent, Autumn harvest, Christmas and preparation for the sacraments. 'All children are valued regardless of ability'.
