General information

Background: The school was set up on its present site in 1964 as a co-educational Church of England secondary comprehensive voluntary aided school to continue the foundation of the Blue Coat Charity School established in 1714 originally for girls. Located in the southeastern part of Coventry, the school admits pupils from the whole of the city and beyond. Particular strengths include a choir with a national reputation and excellent record in public speaking competitions and high levels of academic attainment at each key stage. The school has Leading Edge status and is strong in both arts and science. In September 2005 Blue Coat School became a specialist Music College. The school has a large and successful sixth form offering a wide range of courses. It has a number of building programmes planned including £4.5 million theatre and arts complex. The school also has funding for the development of floodlit football facilities from the football foundation. As well as strengths in the arts and maths, the school has over 160 science A level students. The school aims to create a positive, caring atmosphere in which effort is commended, achievement valued and praised and all are encouraged to develop their abilities to the full.
