Inspection: February 2001: 'Elmhurst school for boys is a good school that serves its pupils and their parents well. The school recognises and celebrates the richness and diversity of the cultural traditions of its pupils and their families. Attainment exceeds expectations for the age and aptitudes of the pupils. Progress is good and boys are generally successful in external examinations and tests. Although sometimes in lessons, the most able pupils are not sufficiently challenged. The quality of education is good; pupils learn effectively and behave very well. Attendance is above average and teaching is good and often very good. The school offers a broad range of learning experiences in and out of school and the curriculum is broad and balanced. Assessment, recording and reporting pupils? progress are thorough and the school knows its pupils well, enabling it to support and guide individuals effectively. A vast amount of information is gathered and used appropriately to track the progress of individual pupils. It is not always used to plan teaching and learning or inform curriculum development. The provision for spiritual development is good and moral and cultural development are integral to all aspects of school life and have a significant impact on pupils? very good behaviour, self discipline and the highly successful relationships at all levels.
