General information

Headteacher: Steve Speer .

Staff: 12 (men 3, women 9).

Background: The school is set in its own grounds, its tree-lined playing fields giving it a sense of space within an almost rural environment. It is situated in the middle of the Webb estate, which was declared a conservation area in 1983. Excellent facilities include large, well-equipped classrooms, a music suite, sports hall, drama studio, art room, science laboratory and networked computer suite. To enhance the curriculum, pupils take part in extra-curricular activities, while regular educational trips and outings are also organised. Children are entered for a variety of inter-school competitions such as Croydon Young Citizens, a Children's Parliament run by Croydon Council, the Croydon Music and Drama Festival and the Coulsdon and Purley Music and Drama Festival. Music is promoted through a highly trained school choir and instrumental groups. Plays and concerts are 'frequent and popular'. Chess, table-tennis and judo clubs are run by specialist coaches and competitive school fixtures are arranged in a variety of sports. The school believes that communication with parents is very important and to that end contact books are used daily. 'Small school with strong family and community atmosphere, providing important opportunities for the students to develop as bright, confident and skilled young people ready for all the challenges of modern life. The school places much emphasis on teaching individuals to think for themselves and to take responsibility for their own learning at the earliest opportunity, while providing just the right amount of care, support and encouragement.' .

Approach to discipline: Fair but firm. Each pupil is given a school charter to sign, keeping a copy for themselves.

Uniform: Green blazer with yellow-and-red stripe, grey trousers/skirt, jumper with school logo and red tie. 'Uniform is strictly adhered to.'

Special needs: Separate special needs room; qualified learning support staff; computer and related resources.
