General information

Headteacher: Judy Harris, appointed in January 2005.

Staff: 15 (women 15).

Background: The school is housed in beautiful purpose-built building, which was opened in Easter in the year 2001. The school provides broad curriculum, which includes large number of clubs and activities, including photography, cookery, and gardening. Girls are encouraged to support fundraising, such as Readathon. Music is strong and many girls take instrumental lessons and participate in drama productions. Ethos: 'A happy, purposeful, forward-thinking environment in which high standards of academic achievement is constantly striven with a culture of independent learning.' .

Approach to discipline: Girls are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and attitude towards others and issues concerning discipline are raised in PSHE lessons. Positive things praised rather than concentrating on negative.

Uniform: Green/mauve (compulsory).

Special needs: Fully-qualified staff to provide extra support for special needs and for gifted and talented pupils.

Inspection: October 2006: 'The school?s success in meeting its aims can be seen in the provision of a broad and balanced educational experience through which pupils achieve high standards in national tests, public examinations and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Pupils are well cared for and high quality provision is made for their personal development. The school successfully brings together pupils from a wide range of social, religious and cultural backgrounds. The head provides considerable drive and leadership and is well supported by the headship team. Wide ranging improvements have been made since the last inspection, notably in relation to the accommodation, the curriculum, ICT and management. The three recommendations made at the time of the last inspection have all been addressed. The Ofsted nursery inspection in May 2004, identified no significant weaknesses, but the school has addressed the need to provide greater variety of indoor and outdoor resources for physical development. As the school is aware, teaching does not encourage pupils, in some subjects, to think critically and creatively and to work independently. It also has issues to address relating to the implementation of policies and procedures, and the use of assessment information. The school complies with almost all the regulatory requirements, but does not at present meet all the regulations for standard four (suitability of proprietors and staff).'
