General information

Background: Askam Village School is a primary school offering a broad and balanced curriculum for boys and girls aged four to 11 years who live in Askam or Ireleth and surrounding areas. The school re-opened as a remodelled primary school in the early 1970?s. Recent building work has added two new special needs withdrawal or meeting rooms and remodelling has created a separate library and music room. The computer suite area has also been remodelled and redesigned. The school enjoys uniquely spacious grounds with an open aspect and marvellous views to the Lakeland hills and the Duddon Estuary. Although in an urban area, the school is set in sizeable grounds in which there are three play areas, a large sports field, a mixed centenary woodland, an environmental area which has been allowed to develop naturally a seated garden area, large chess court and two attractive courtyard garden areas. Many activities are offered to the children out of the school hours. These include those of a sporting nature, musical, including cycling proficiency training and other special interests such as chess, aerobics, mathematics club and science. The school provides a range of sporting activities, which include football, netball, rugby, cricket and table tennis. The school aims to provide the highest quality of education and be challenged to achieve the highest standard in all aspects of learning and personal and social development.
