General information
Headteacher: Isobel Nixon.
Background: Founded in 1938, Chetwynde has grown into a substantial and successful non-denominational independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18 on a 17 acre site on the outskirts of 'Barrow in Furness' on the edge of the Lake district national park.Sport is as important in the senior school as in the primary school. The children benefit from enthusiastic and talented teachers and coaches who ensure that the pupils develop their skills to the highest level. Teams and individuals compete with great success and there are representatives and winners at county, regional and national level in virtually every sport. The extra-curricular life of the school is very strong and enjoys wonderful support from both pupils and parents. Pupils are encouraged to participate in as many as possible. The following list gives a flavour, but not an exhaustive list, of what is on offer: instrumental lessons in a wide range of instruments, chamber groups, Orchestra and choirs, speech and drama lessons, duke of Edinburgh award, school productions and concerts, chess club, science club, German and French exchanges, sky trips, cultural and theatre visits, and outdoor pursuits.
