General information

Background: In 1968 amalgamation of three schools created Trinity. One of the schools absorbed, Carlisle Grammar School, had origins in the era of St Cuthbert. The fully subscribed school's single site extends the full length of Strand Road, with extensive playing fields stretching to the River Eden at the rear. A choice of 30 A-level subjects is offered to sixth-formers, including classics and a second modern language. Achievement is highlighted as very strong in mathematics, science, art, business studies, geography, history and technology. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and a regular programme of team games in winter and summer. There are drama productions throughout the year and music is catered for through two orchestras, two choirs and regular concerts. The school has a Church of England foundation, with links with Carlisle Cathedral. The school aims to enrich curriculum and to broaden student?s programme by giving chances to supplement in an interesting and challenging way. The range of extra-curricular opportunities at Trinity was praised by Ofsted as outstanding. Activities, which are covered at the moment, include rugby union, football, hockey, netball, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, dance, cricket, tennis, rounders and softball. The school aims to develop self-discipline, self-respect and an awareness and respect for moral and spiritual values and the needs and rights of the others.
