General information
Headteacher: Fiona Bell.
Staff: 11 (women 11).
Background: The school is next to the senior school in Vale of Clwyd. It is housed in newly-refurbished premises and has good resources in curriculum areas. It has seven fully-equipped classrooms, a nursery, technology room, hall, library and recreation area. It also has a separate boarding house. The school has use of facilities in the senior school. Pupils follow national curriculum, with additional French, music, technology, IT, religious education and sport. Pupils also have the opportunity to study Welsh. The school develops sporting, musical and dramatic talents. It believes in developing all aspects of a girl's character and personality. The school offers activities such as: netball, rounders, gymnastics, tennis and swimming. 30 per cent of pupils learn musical instrument. Pupils work hard and play hard. The school provides a full and varied activities programme. Ethos: 'The school aims to provide a caring, warm and family environment within the safe and bright friendly rooms.' .
Approach to discipline: Each class write their own code of conduct at the beginning of the year based on the Christian ethos of the school.
Uniform: Maroon sweater, maroon blazer, grey skirt, grey coat, pink shirt.
Special needs: The school provides a special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) who provides lessons for pupils who need it, such as those with dyslexia or those who speak English as a foreign language. All staff are trained to be dyslexia-friendly.
Inspection: June 2000: 'The school serves its pupils very well in a number of key areas. A significant proportion of the teaching is very good or excellent, pupils? standards of achievement are often exceptionally high, and their quality of learning and behaviour is good or very good. The pastoral care of pupils and the attention paid to their welfare are secure and effective. The school is now ready to pay closer attention to the pockets of weaker teaching that remain, and to upgrade its provision in information and communications technology (ICT) and libraries, and to make appropriate adjustments to its curriculum.'
