General information

Background: Derby Grammar School was founded in 1995, remains at the heart of our success today and affirms our reputation as one of the leading schools in Derby and the surrounding area. In 1995, the school celebrated the official opening of the William Science Building by Sir Nigel Rudd. The building was converted from an old Coach House and Stable Block. The year 2000 then, was marked by the construction of the new Chemistry and Technology Building, for which the foundation stone was laid by Sir Nigel Rudd, and for the first set of A level results for the school.

Inspection: October 2005: 'Derby Grammar School has established itself very quickly as a successful school which enables pupils to achieve high standards academically and in a wide variety of other activities. Excellent relationships between pupils from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and between pupils and staff, encourage strong personal development. The governors? vision and the headmaster?s dynamic leadership have been crucial to the school?s success so far. Planning permission has been granted to develop the sports facilities and further building is planned. Currently, the management structure and provision for constructive debate among the whole staff on curriculum planning and future development are unsatisfactory.'
