General information

Background: The Bolsover CofE (Controlled) Junior School is situated in the centre of the town, adjacent to the Castle. The school was built in 1866 but there was a school building on the same site prior to that, founded by the national society. The school's reference library is organised on the Dewey System, like the Bolsover library, which makes the finding of reference material easier. The school now has a central resource area for science and technology. It also has an environmental garden to supplement the work in science. Each classroom is now equipped with a computer and colour printer. The activities which traditionally form the main contexts for physical education are gymnastics, dance, games and swimming and a range of outdoor activities. The school has a small hall but well equipped to meet the needs of children. The school has after-school practices in football. Various clubs and activities take place throughout the year, including chess, bookshop, art club, gardening club, choir, recorders and drama. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning of significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
