General information

Background: Brockwell Junior opened in 1965 to serve the area of Loundsley Green, near the centre of Chesterfield. The site comprises a main building housing six classes, and a new block for two others, which was added in 1997. The grounds are shared with the feeder infant school and encompass playing fields, playgrounds, and seating areas with mature shrubs and trees. There is extra-curricular hockey, cricket, netball, football, and an environmental club. The school teams play in local sporting tournaments, and the hockey team came joint first in a competition in July 1999. Brockwell celebrates its musical tradition at Harvest Festival, Christmas, Easter, and leavers' concerts. The school encourages children to organise fundraising events for charities, which in the past have included Red Nose Day, NCH Action for Children and Kosovan refugees. Brockwell has established links with the local community and has been awarded grants from local organisations to improve facilities for the children. The school won a BT 'Grounds for the Future award' in 1999, an environmental award from the Derbyshire School Association for Environmental Action in 1998, and a Gold Award from the Schools Litter Free Zone scheme.
