General information

Background: Chapel-en-le-Frith High School is a co-educational county comprehensive school. The school was set up in 1972 to provide education for children aged 11 to 16. It has no religious affiliation. In April 2003, it moved into new purpose-built accommodation. The new building houses specialist rooms for all subjects on the curriculum. Technology facilities include pneumatics and control technology (PECT) and computer aided design and manufacture (CADCAM) as well as more traditional food, textiles, graphics and resistant material accommodation. Facilities for physical education include a sports hall, an astroturf pitch and tennis courts, as well as use of the commercial community facilities in the leisure centre for older students. There are three music practice rooms, and instrumental music lessons are available.Awards have been earned in Youth Music, and the School was a finalist in the TES/Engineering Council's 'Industry Links School of the Year Award'. Cross-curricular courses run to improve general skills include study skills, personal management, health and safety and 'education for industrial understanding'. External groups are involved in initiatives such as 'Young Drivers' Day' and drugs awareness. .
