General information

Headteacher: Nick Folland, appointed in September 2001.

Staff: 32 (men 12, women 20).

Background: The school has an excellent reputation for providing the essentials. Sound academic standards are based on providing the core subjects of mathematics, English and science taught to an extremely high standard. In addition to this there is the bonus of a wide range of supplementary subjects, well taught by specialist teachers. Drama lessons and as part of the many extra-curricular activities offered. Its sports department has an enviable reputation of producing good all round sporting pupils, as well as nurturing and extending those with talent. The school is fortunate to possess purpose-built science and technology suites and has its own dedicated music and drama facility. It also has full use of Blundell?s excellent sporting facilities. Blundell's Preparatory School places great emphasis on children being happy, secure and confident, thus offering individuals every opportunity to achieve their full potential. Holistic. Plenty of opportunity and breadth. A family based, friendly school catering for a broad range of pupil and setting good academic standards access this range.

Approach to discipline: The school's approach to discipline is firm but fair.

Uniform: Grey with a hint of purple which is strictly enforced.

Special needs: One-to-one mathematics and English support.

Inspection: November 2001: 'St. Aubyn?s Preparatory School has become successfully established with a distinctive identity on its new site and provides a majority of good teaching for its pupils; the new day centre provides very good care for children. However, some shortcomings in staff training and the use of assessment limits the breadth of pupils? learning.'
