General information

Background: In September 2002, the college was consolidated into a single site with a new purpose built suite of classrooms. The college has a state of art facilities in mathematics, physical education, technology and art. Science Specialist Status was gained in September 2002 and has led to a rapid improvement in science results at all levels and an increase in the number of students opting for mathematics and science in the sixth form. Five years ago the college opened a purpose-built art and technology block comprising 12 studios and workshops. The college has daily use of the Quayside Leisure Centre, which has a large sports hall, squash courts, fitness suite and swimming pool. As a result of building programme, every classroom and office on the site is linked with the Internet, with all classrooms having at least four ICT outlets. There are digital projectors in almost all classrooms and interactive white boards in many.The school holds a Challenge Week at the end of the summer term where students opt for residential or daily activities. There are many other trips and visits which enhance the curriculum including a technology residential in London to look at all aspects of design, English and drama residential in London and Stratford, a media studies residential in Hollywood, geography and biology field trips. Successful links are being forged with schools around the world. In Thailand under the auspices of the British Council and in Poland, Turkey and the Netherlands. The school creates a purposeful and stimulating environment for learning within the college and provides opportunities for learning in the local community and across the world.
