General information

Background: Northlew and Ashbury Parochial Primary was founded in 1866 as a church school. It is situated at one corner of Northlew village square. Most of the school is housed in the old Victorian building with a small additional area comprising of an office and a kitchen. The grounds overlook Dartmoor and include an environmental area and a pond constructed by parents. There are only two classes in the school and the headteacher also undertakes a teaching role. The school has close links with the church and chapel where Christmas, Harvest Festival and Easter are celebrated. The children also join in other village events such as maypole dancing and singing. A number of extra-curricular activities are available during the year including football, netball, recorder and guitar. Each year the children of the school raise money for a different charity.
