General information

Background: Situated in 'attractive' buildings and grounds, the school opened in September 1994 following local education authority reorganisation, and is an amalgamation of the former first and middle schools. An extension recently opened to accommodate growing numbers (pupils are more frequently being drawn from areas outside the village itself). The school grounds contain a playing field, grassy areas, a small meadow, a wooded 'wild' area and a small environmental area, 'excellent' for science research. Indoor facilities include a central library, an art and craft/technology area and a small music room. Every class has at least two computers. The 'very highest standards' of education are offered, and in 1997 the school was listed as one of 74 'outstanding' primary schools in England in the annual report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools. Individual support is available for children with special educational needs. Extra-curricular activities include various sports, a choir and a Christian Fellowship club. Parents and grandparents are welcome to help around the school. There are 'strong' links with the church and community, and partnerships with business. They are part of a new national school-centred initial teacher training scheme, for which they take on two postgraduate students. Children are encouraged to raise money for a variety of charities. The school is over-subscribed in some years. .
