General information
Background: Founded in 1901, the school is housed in a Victorian brick building consisting of seven classrooms connected to a central, multi-purpose hall. It is situated on 'ample' sloping concrete grounds, and work is currently underway to design and construct seating and garden areas. Standards have risen over the past few years, since the Local Education Authority expressed 'grave concern' about the future of the school in 1994. The school sees its ethos and pupil's behaviour as 'particular strengths'. Children with learning difficulties are welcome and receive individually tailored education plans. Year 2 children play the recorder and can learn another instrument too. Year 5 pupils are taken on a residential visit to Robin Hood's Bay each year. 'Good use' is made of the immediate environment and the school involves the community in its work 'as often as possible'. Pupils raise money for charity twice a year and regularly support a child in Haiti.
