General information

Background: Shaw Wood Primary School opened as a new school on 1st September 2003 after the amalgamation of the infant and junior schools. It is a county, primary, co-educational day school. The school is situated on the outskirts of Doncaster in the large ex-mining village of Armthorpe, approximately 3 miles from the town centre and almost adjacent to the Armthorpe School. There are 440 pupils on roll including nursery. The aims of the school is to provide a secure, welcoming and caring environment where purposeful and positive attitudes are fundamental in ensuring a sense of value, belonging, pride and respect. Information, communication technology (ICT) makes a significant contribution to teaching and learning across all subjects. The ability to use ICT effectively is a vital skill in modern society. Music is experienced in a class or group situation and is viewed as a purely practical subject with every child being given opportunities for listening, composing, performing and appraising. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities to its children such as, craft, sports, music, candle making, art and many more. Clubs allow children to further their experiences and become more confident within their own abilities. Extra-curricular activities take place in four-week blocks and children are invited to complete a preformed to select their preferred activity. The aim of the school is to provide a secure, welcoming and caring environment where purposeful and positive attitudes are fundamental in ensuring a sense of value, belonging, pride and respect.
